What is the most important thing you gained from this experience? Why?
I believe the most important thing i've gained from this experience is knowing what my body is capable of and how hard and exciting it is to work with a team of dancers all striving for the same thing, to get their "voice" heard from moving in rhythm.  The reason i believe this is the most important because it helped me learn what true teamwork is and knowing how hard it is to be a dancer.

How has what you’ve done helped you to answer your EQ?  Please explain.
My mentorship helped me accomplish all three answers. The first answer was found when practicing every Saturday, the directors would tell us the same thing over and over again, don't forget facial expressions and remember to BREATHE. With that constantly being told, I realized how important these factors are to make a great performance for hip-hop. My second answer was achieved was when a week before the competition, we practiced places other then our studio and it was a total different environment and feeling, but it helped us prepare for the stage itself because the stage is where everyone is uncomfortable and nervous. For my last answer, I was thinking about it for some time when it was under my nose that during practices, we would workout for 30-50 minutes in just our natural strength and stamina, so your body does not have a limit when dancing making you a better dancer overall.

Grading Criteria (May 13th)

Blog 12: Mentorship 10 hours check

1.   Where are you doing your mentorship?
          Dellos Dance Studio.

2.   Who is your contact?

          Tawnya Nyugen.

3.   How many total hours have you done (total hours should be reflected in your mentorship log located on the right hand side of your blog like your WB)?
Ive done a total of a total of 84 hours for every Saturday i would either see my mentor or dance at the studio with the company for 5 hours. For my Independent Component, I've done 45+ hours because on Thursdays and Fridays i would work with my mentor on paperwork or do workshops in other cities as well as take class and teach class, usually about 4 hours each Thursday or/and Friday.

4.   Summarize the 10 hours of service you did.
These two weeks of winter break were fun. Even my hours were fun because the first Saturday we did an activity to show everyone on the team how each individual improved in their dancing by free styling in front of the company. This was for 6 hours. On Tuesday i did paperwork for the flyers and advertisement with my mentor for the new auditions for the studio and company. this took 4 hours. On Friday I took a workshop in Upland and the class was around 4 hours. So i did a total of 14 hours.

September Extra Post

hey i actually lead a class!

Dancing as my project is a lot of fun because its something i love to do. This month consists mostly of taking classes my mentor has given me and teaching me the ways of teaching a class. it can be rather hard because you need to know the counts perfectly of the routine you are teaching in order for your groups of learners to learn from you well. On saturday a choreographer came to my dance company to teach us a routine and at the end of the class, we are split into groups to show how well you can do the piece he taught us and i was asked to lead two groups! It was nerve wracking and exciting at the same time. It was a great experience for me for i learn how to take on leadership when i dance.

This is my teammates and i doing the piece together. I am the one with the white shirt on.

Summer Mentorship Component

1. (Know) Using google doc (drive) link a log of specific hours and a description of your duties

https://docs.google.com/spreadsheet/ccc?key=0AptFIfmEyhugdHFVRmZ2elJGTVh3Tzdwem5MVHZ2Wmc&usp=sharing

2. What is the contact name & number of where you volunteered?

Name: Angel Barajas  Phone Number: (562) 215-9127

3. (Need to know) What questions were raised because of the 10 hours of experience?  List them.

1. Is class a way to express your emotions with others through dancing?
2. Why is it more expensive to take a class of ballet then hip hop?
3. Is it a good thing to have your kid dance a lot at a young age?

4. What is the most important thing you gained from this experience? Why?

I think what i gained the most is that choreography isn't just about different sets of moves and patterns but emotional and unique. Everyone has their own choreo in their heart and everyone has a different pattern to go by when it comes to dancing, which is amazing.

5. What is your senior project topic going to be?  How did what you did help you choose a topic?  Please explain.

Im going to stay with Performing Arts. The reason for this is because dancing is my passion and it would be exciting to learn more and go more in depths  with something i really like to do. Teaching and assisting class at dellos helped me choose this topic because it gave me an insight of what being a teacher and choreographer is like, and it is very exciting yet sometimes troublesome for sometimes you get stuck with your next move in your choreography.
